How does electrical energy change into heat energy in such devices?
Experiment.
Materials required:
- A nichrome wire of approximate length 5 cm
- 6 V storage battery
- Connection wires
How does the nichrome wire become red hot while passing electricity through the circuit?
The nichrome wire become red hot while passing electricity through the circuit due to the resistance of Ni-chrome wire.
Advanced Learners
Nichrome has a very high resistance so when electric current passess through a nichrome wire the heat produced in it will be too much , due to which it will become very hot.The elements of electric heating appliances like electric iron, etc. become very hot or red-hot on passing electric current because they have very high resistance and because of that (due to which the heat produced in them is very large).
In the above case which form of energy was converted into heat energy?
In the above case the electrical energy is converted to heat energy.
How does this energy change occur?
This can be explained with respect to Law of Conservation of Energy, Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be converted from
one form to another. As the resistance of Ni-chrome is higher it will produced
more heat.
Advanced Learners
Electric heating is a process in which electrical energy is converted to heat energy. For example an electric heater is an electrical device that converts an electric current into heat. The heating element inside every electric heater is an electrical resistor, and its will works with the principle of Joule heating: an electric current passing through a resistor will convert that electrical energy into heat energy.
